Farrell, Bernard

Bernard Farrell was born in Sandycove, County Dublin. He has written seventeen plays, eight of these for the Abbey Theatre, including I Do Not Like Thee, Doctor Fell and The Last Apache Reunion. He has also written commissioned plays for Red Kettle Theatre Company, including Fourty-four Sycamore, and Happy Birthday Dear Alice. His plays for the Gate Theatre include the award-winning Stella By Starlight. He was elected to Aosdána in 1992, to the board of the Abbey Theatre in 1996 and is a recipient of the Rooney Prize for Irish Literature. Kevin’s Bed was nominated as best new play in the 1998 Irish Times/ESB Theatre Awards.
