de Bhaldraithe, Tomás

Tomás de Bhaldraithe was an Irish language scholar and lexicographer. He is best known for his English-Irish Dictionary, published in 1959, which forced a resolution of many long-standing controversies about the literary standard for Irish. In 1960 he was appointed professor of modern Irish language and literature in UCD, where he developed an impressive archive of material on Irish dialects.
