In Search of the Promised Land launch

Press Release:

In Search Of The Promised Land is an exciting challenge to the established historiography of 1950s Ireland, based on extensive research in Irish departmental files, British and American archives, the personal papers of politicians and other policy players, and interviews with officials, businessmen, trade unionists, and others who were active during the period.

Gary Murphy argues that the Irish political and administrative establishment was much more in tune with events in Western Europe than has been allowed for to date. Murphy contends that rather than pursuing a conservative and isolationist agenda, the leaders of the country were actively considering changes such as joining the EEC, opening up the economy to competition and were seeking new ways to deal with the nation’s challenges.
