MacSweeney, Tom

Tom MacSweeney worked for The Irish Examiner, The Southern Star, the Irish Press and RTÉ in Belfast, Dublin and Cork. He had no great interest in the sea until he was assigned to Cork in the 1970s as RTÉ's first Regional Correspondent and an old fisherman in Kinsale told him 'down here you should have a boat.' He took that advice and from then the sea fascinated him. In 2008 he was made national Maritime Person of the Year for his contribution to the marine sphere. He lives in Monkstown on the edge of Cork Harbour, where he sails a boat called SEASCAPES
