Walsh, Thomas F.

Thomas F. Walsh was born near Headford in County Galway, and reared with his brothers and sisters on the small farm that he so lovingly describes in Once in a Green Summer. He was educated in St Patricks College Drumcondra, Dublin, where he qualified as a primary school teacher. Before he left teaching he was principal of a boys national school in Tallaght, Dublin. For ten years he has been a broadcaster and writer, and a frequent contributor to Sunday Miscellany and The Open mind on RTÉ. He is the compiler of the bestselling Favourite Poems series, which includes Favourite Poems We Learned at School, More Favourite Poems We Learned at School, Favourite Poems we Learned at School as Gaeilge and The Illustrated Favourite Poems We Learned a School. He lives in Dublin with his wife, Nuala, and some of their grown-up family. Tom, who was a gifted footballer in his youth, is still an enthusiastic follower of Gaelic games and a keen golfer.
