Barry, Anthony

Anthony Barry was born in Cork in June 1901. At 14 years of age, he entered his father's business. He later joined the National Army, where he served as a captain until the end of the civil war. He returned to the family business and built Barry's into a premier tea firm. He was a founding member of Cumann Na nGaedheal. In 1954, he was elected to Dáil Éireann and served in the Dáil and Seanad until 1965. He was a member of Cork Corporation until 1967 and was Lord Mayor of Cork in 1961-62.
